Farm Camp - Week 1 Registration

$75.00 - $150.00

5/19-22 Animal Adventures

BACKGROUND

Anna Maria and Lucian started Sun and Bloom Farms (formerly Desert Bloom Farm) 6 years ago as a central meeting place for community education and growing nutritious food. Both have more than a decade-long professional career in education and agriculture in business, academic, government and non-profit environments. They created both individually and together a myriad of small and large community engagement programs, farm to table events, culinary educational workshops, college courses in horticulture and permaculture as professors, permaculture designs and consultations, workshop and courses, garden based curriculum, and of course different size farms. Through their work, children have always been a focal point. They have known that all their efforts put into regenerative farming, sustainability education, and community enrichment was not just for the current generation, but for future generations as well. The health and well being of all children has always been a high priority to ensure a thriving future for all. So Farm Camp was birthed to inspire, empower and support the healthy development of children, the leaders of our common regenerative future.

OUR APPROACH

Sun and Bloom Farms is pleased to offer Farm Camp as the next step in their commitment to community stewardship. While the farm operates as a fully functional market garden operation, it provides the perfect backdrop for nature based learning. The goals of Farm Camp is to provide open spaces for children to grow in knowledge, foster a sense of wonder for the natural world, and cultivate understanding of themselves and their peers. While Anna Maria and Lucian uphold Christsian values in their home and lives, the curriculum of Farm Camp will not be religious based, allowing for acceptance of a diverse array of students and families.

Our curriculum emerges with signals from the season. As farmers, we shift our daily work based upon the season progression. Children are naturally curious about the environment and we let their natural discoveries guide our explorations and activities. Our program includes a balance of teacher-directed and child-directed activities. Teacher-directed activities include group meeting/circle time, projects, crafts, walks, and science experiments. The remainder of our program time is centered on child-directed activities in our learning dome (gross motor play, blocks, easel, dramatic play, sensory bins, mud kitchen, books, etc. Our curriculum focuses on the experience and children being in the moment. We encourage imaginative, collaborative play for children of all ages.

Our camp days are spent outdoors, rain or shine. Our students come to camp prepared for all of the elements. Our farm is a beautiful space and our students engage with the environment and build knowledge in deep and meaningful ways. Families are our partners and ensure children are properly dressed for the weather each day. We see a direct correlation between how dirty and messy children get and how happy they feel.

We built this program for our own children and yours too. We know investing in our children and their future is one of our greatest tasks! A well worthy cause!

Farm Camp Schedule Summer 2025

Produce CSA 2025 (May-October)

$650.00 - $720.00

Fresh & Regenerative

What is our CSA Produce Share:

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a system by which customers enjoy weekly pickups of fresh produce throughout the growing season after paying a discounted member price before the season begins. Customers secure a weekly box of farm goodies for a number of weeks, also called a share, and save money, while the farmer is able to plan the growing and harvest processes better for freshness.

We launched our program in 2023 and in 2024 we served 33 families with weekly shares for 21 weeks between May and October.

In 2025 we are offering 12 shares, picked up once every 2 weeks, between the end of May to end of October, with produce from our farm and other local chemicals-free, regenerative, farms (including farmers we trained, are training, and/or have signed, or signing, our chemicals-free and regenerative farm practices accord). At this point, we are also limiting the number of shares we provide to up to 40 (they will be reserved fast!).

How our Produce Share CSA Works:

Our CSA shares include an assortment of vegetables picked up by the customers every two weeks. Pickups will happen at our farm, located between Camdenton and Lebanon, or at one of the local farmers' markets we attend, right after they are harvested. Pickups on the farm are on Saturdays, from 9 am to 4 pm. Pickups at the Camdenton Farmers Market are also on Saturdays from 8 am to noon. Other possible locations in Lebanon may be announced in early 2025. The exact pick-up schedule will be announced to the share holders in April - the first day for pick will be either Saturday, May the 17th or the 24th, 2025.

This year we offer only whole shares picked up every 2 weeks - they provide a good amount of produce for 2 to 4 people, depending on their love of fresh vegetables. Our farm stand is open every Saturday from April to the end of October (or longer) and share holders can choose to get additional produce at a 10% CSA member discount - the 10% discount applies to shopping with us at the Farmers' Markets also.

Our CSA offers Choice:

Our CSA model offers the freedom to choose what veggies you want to take home. This is available on the farm only! CSA members that pick up at other locations will have a premade box with an assortment - please understand we cannot make exceptions. Our harvests consist of up to twenty (20) different vegetables, according to what is in season. Share members will get 12 of these items. Items will include pre-portioned bunches for veggies such as radishes, carrots, beets, kale and chard, and pre-portioned quantities between around 1 to 2 pounds for potatoes, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, beans and the likes, and more pounds when we have squashes, melons, watermelons and pumpkins. We'll be generous regardless and choosing multiples of the same item will be fine. A typical weekly whole share will include veggies to eat raw in salads, and veggies to cook, and will weigh an average of anywhere between 12 and 20 pounds. We grow mostly heirloom varieties, with regenerative, beyond organic practices, focused on nutrient density.

What we grow for the CSA shares:

Radishes, Carrots, Beets, Potatoes, Peas, Spinach, Lettuces, Cabbages, Kales, Broccoli, Micro-greens, Chard, Culinary Herbs (Parsley, Cilantro, Dill, Basil, Oregano and more), Green Onions, Garlic, Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers, Zucchinis, Squashes, Onions, Beans and Flowers. We also partner with farmers that grow with the same people and earth respecting values as ours, and we may periodically have other produce available for the box such as asparagus, berries and melons.

Saturdays: May 24, June 7, June 21, July 5, July 19, August 2, August 16, August 30, September 13, September 27, October 11, October 25.

PERMACULTURE COURSE

Education Reimagined

LEVEL UP PERMACULTURE™ IS OUR TRADE MARKED APPROACH TO BRING PERMACULTURE EDUCATION TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE!

FIRST THING IS FIRST: WHAT IS PERMACULTURE?

Permaculture is a holistic-system design approach for creating and managing regenerative and sustainable human living and social spaces, as well as institutions, to have the diversity, stability and resilience of natural ecosystems. Permaculture design creates spaces and socio-economic interactions that meet evolving human needs, while also maintaining the continuous health of our life sustaining ecosystems. With permaculture we can design small gardens, 1 or more acres homesteads, large scale farms, school gardens, community centers, entire neighborhoods, and even more complex agro ecological productive systems - any of these spaces would contribute to a better and more resilient life for all involved and touched by its effects. The design approach is scalable and it can be applied to business, community, and other human arrangements. In fact a complete permaculture design of a space, usually includes a business, community or even personal or family life plan. Permaculture was first presented together by an Australian scientist and systems' thinker, Bill Mollison, who combined earth and agricultural sciences with indigenous wisdoms he gathered from around the world, and patterns observed in nature. Permaculture Design courses have been taught around the world since the 1980's and have evolved to become a blueprint for resiliently thriving on planet earth. We, the team from Sun And Bloom, have been teaching, consulting and living permaculture for over a decade and believe that it should be an education all citizens of the world have. We are here to make it happen.
