Basic Knowledge Foundations
We begin with the foundations of permaculture: definitions, ethics, principles, ecological literacy, patterns in nature, succession, climate, bioregions, and human settlement patterns. This part of the course helps students build a shared language and a deeper way of seeing.
The Sun & Bloom Permaculture Design Process
Students learn the full design process from beginning to end. This includes vision, mission, goals, holistic context, regional context, landscape analysis, constraints and opportunities, conceptual design options, master conceptual design, design rationale, and final presentation. This process gives students a repeatable framework they can use for home landscapes, homesteads, farms, community projects, client projects, and future professional design work.
Soil & Fertility Systems
Soil is the foundation of regenerative design. We study soil as a living system and explore practical fertility-building strategies, including compost, vermicompost, mulch, cover crops, biological inputs, soil testing, soil observation, and long-term soil stewardship.
Water Harvesting & Conservation Systems
Water design begins with understanding how water moves through a landscape. We explore watersheds, runoff, infiltration, roof catchment, water storage, slope, contour, earthworks, tanks, greywater, irrigation, and design strategies that help slow, spread, sink, store, and wisely use water.
Plants & Food Systems
We explore annual gardens, perennial systems, orchards, food forests, agroforestry, plant guilds, pollinator plants, culinary and medicinal herbs, mushrooms, and plant selection by function. Students learn to see plants not just as crops, but as living design elements that provide food, fertility, shade, habitat, medicine, beauty, microclimate, and resilience.
Animal Integration
Animals can support fertility, food, disturbance, pest management, pollination, and ecological health when they are integrated thoughtfully. We explore animal needs, ethical care, chickens, goats and livestock where appropriate, pollinators, manure systems, bedding systems, fencing, shelter, water, movement, and matching animals to land and human capacity.
Waste, Energy & Natural Materials
We explore how waste can become resource, how energy moves through a site, and how natural materials can support more resilient and lower-impact systems. This includes composting, nutrient cycling, biomass, appropriate technology, passive design thinking, and basic natural building concepts.
Regenerative Social & Entrepreneurial Permaculture
Permaculture applies to people, communities, institutions, and livelihoods as much as it applies to soil and plants. We explore social systems, community resilience, right livelihood, regenerative entrepreneurship, project planning, and the human capacity needed to support long-term projects.
Master Design Projects
The final part of the course brings everything together. Students refine their project vision, complete the design exercises, develop their master conceptual design, organize their design rationale, and prepare for final review and presentation.

No, but certification students do need a real project to design. That project may be your own land, a family property, a garden, a community site, a school, a church, a farm, a retreat, a business concept, or a professional portfolio project. You can be both the designer and the client.
Can I take the course just to learn, without certification?
Yes. The Content Library / Self-Guided Design Track is designed for students who want access to the recordings, resources, readings, books, and exercises without certification or review.
Can I earn certification without joining the live program?
Yes. The Self-Paced Permaculture Design Certification Track allows you to complete the material independently, finish the required exercises, submit your final project, participate in a final design discussion, and earn certification after successful completion.
What is the difference between the self-paced certification and the live coaching program?
The Self-Paced Certification Track gives you the content, exercises, final review, final discussion, and certification pathway. The Live Online Certification + Design Coaching Program gives you all of that, plus live lectures, live discussions, group masterminds, one-on-one coaching sessions, design exercise feedback, accountability, and ongoing guidance throughout the year.
Will you design my land for me?
No. In this course, you do the design work. We teach, guide, coach, ask questions, provide structure, and offer feedback depending on your track. The goal is to help you build your own design capacity so you understand the decisions being made and can continue applying the process long after the course ends.
When are materials released?
For the Content Library and Self-Paced Certification tracks, materials are released in stages according to payment status and course access structure. For the Live Online Certification + Design Coaching Program, resources are released with the pace of the course, generally after the presentations and modules are delivered. This helps students stay focused and not become overwhelmed.
When do I receive my certificate?
Certificates are issued after all certification requirements are completed, tuition is paid in full, the final project is submitted and reviewed, and the final design discussion or presentation process is complete.
